Telford & Wrekin Council provide a variety of front line services to help people in crisis.

If you have no money and you need essential items the Council might be able to help. The  Telford & Wrekin Crisis Line is 01952 380400.

Crisis Assistance

Crisis Loans and Community Care Grants ended in April 2013. Ask your local Jobcentre Plus if you can get a Short Term Benefit Advance or a Budgeting Loan. If you have been sanctioned, ask the Job Centre about Hardship Payments.

If you do not qualify for a an Advance or Budgeting Loan and live in the Telford & Wrekin area you may be able to get assistance from Telford & Wrekin Council, if you need essential items in the following circumstances:

  • You have had a crisis, disaster or emergency
  • You are leaving care
  • You are leaving prison
  • You are setting up home as part of a resettlement programme

You can only get help if you do not have the funds to be able to afford essential items yourself to keep you safe and well. Good quality second hand goods will be provided.

There will be no cash payments available.

Telford & Wrekin Council First Point
You can get advice on any of the 700+ services provided by Telford & Wrekin Council at First Point, Addenbrooke House, Ironmasters Way, Telford. TF3 4NT. Advice on subjects including Benefits Assessments, Housing Services and Family Connect and advice on Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefits, Local Housing Allowance, Second Adult Rebate and Free School Meals. Social Services – Outside of Hours

Social Services has an Emergency Duty Team to provide help outside of normal hours.

  • Weekdays from 5pm each evening until 9am the following morning
  • Weekends From 5pm on Friday until 9am the following Monday
  • All Bank holidays

The social services out-of-hours service is for:

  • older people and people with physical or sensory disabilities;
  • people with a mental health problem;
  • people with a learning disability; and
  • children and families.
