Telford Town Centre Food Bank

On October 31st, 2014, the main depot and stores for Telford Food Bank relocated from Madeley to the Telford Community Store on the Forge Retail Park in the centre of town.

Where is Telford Town Centre Food Bank?

It’s on The Forge Retail Park, near Sainsburys and next to Holiday Hypermarket and Furniture Village.

It’s a short walk from Telford Bus Station. Here’s Arriva’s Bus Timetables for Telford.

It’s within an hours’ walk of even more people in Telford than was the case in Madeley. We’re currently seeking a solution to ensure safe transport of service users and volunteers from the Store back to the Bus Station at 6.30pm. At the moment, it’s a short walk.

Here’s Directions to Telford Town Centre Food Bank.

Extended Opening Days

From the 31st October, the Telford Town Centre Food Bank is open seven days a week, 357 days a year. It’s closed on Bank Holidays, although Emergency Crisis Provision is in place 365 days a year. An explanation of how emergency provision is handled is at the bottom of this page.

Requesting Food Support – Self Referrals

The process for requesting food remains unchanged.

If you’re in crisis and unable to put food on your plate, please:
  • approach a Telford Crisis Network member, or
  • telephone the Crisis Network Support Line on 01952 459258, or
  • telephone the Telford & Wrekin Council Crisis Line on 01952 380400.

There is a cut off time of 5pm Monday to Friday. The phone lines are closed at weekends.

Households may self refer and apply themselves for food support twice by phone before they must come through a Telford Crisis Network Member who is actively helping them. You must be in crisis and there is criteria. It’s open to abuse and there are checks and safeguards in place.

No Limits for Telford Crisis Network Members

Telford Crisis Network Members can apply for a food parcel as many times as is needed for any household that you are actively supporting during their time of crisis. There is no cap on the number of times you can apply for someone so long as you are supporting them, you recommend that they receive food support and you make the application on their behalf. Telford Crisis Network Members can apply using the familiar application form.

Quality Provision & Floating Support

We have frozen food, chilled items and fresh produce at Telford Town Centre Food Bank. Individuals have the ability to walk around the food bank and select specific items that are needed. There’s other additional help that we can give them there too.

Thrive are also present at Telford Town Centre Food Bank (between 5.30pm and 6.30pm Mondays to Fridays) offering a floating support service to those in crisis.  It’s therefore much better to select the Telford Town Centre Food Bank as the location for collection, if at all possible, even if it means incurring the expense of a bus ticket or walking a long distance. It is worth it.

Same Day Service

Requests for food support can be collected the same day that they were made from Telford Town Centre Food Bank and at Madeley Food Bank (Monday to Friday 5.30pm to 6.30pm). Further Same Day centres are planned for Oakengates and Wellington.

Hot food, coffee, tea and biscuits is available at the Madeley Food Bank every week day evening between 5.30pm to 6.30pm and you don’t have to apply for a food parcel to benefit, you can just drop in.

Here’s Directions to Madeley Food Bank.

16 Local Distribution Points

We still operate 16 local distribution points across Telford & Wrekin where food parcels can be collected from 11am the following day after the request. You can see or be told where they are and when they’re open during the application process.

Seven Days a Week Immediate Emergency Provision

A Telford Crisis Network Member may apply for food support online using the familiar application form any day of the week, and may choose to collect the food immediately either themselves as an agency or by accompanying the individual to Telford Town Centre Food Bank.

To be clear, unaccompanied service users cannot use this immediate emergency provision service.

Online applications must be submitted prior to your arrival and this emergency service is available between 10am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 2pm on Sundays.
