10 Pallets donated!

Last week, we were part of Palmer and Harvey ‘s Pro Retail event at Southwater Event Group’s Telford International Centre.

2017 is the third year that we have been a part of the event but this year we were lucky enough to be given an exhibition space to allow us talk to retailers and brands about how they can work with their local Foodbanks to offer much needed support and produce!

The surplus from the show was also donated to us weighing in at an impressive 10 pallets of stock which included toiletries, cleaning products, pet food, drinks, confectionery, fresh milk and cheese, fruit, vegetables and various grocery items.

We’d like to thank all of the brands and retailers who made a contribution, Palmer and Harvey for their support and Shropshire Community Project for assisting with logistics and giving up their time to help!

We’ve already passed on stock to Maninplace YMCA Wellington 1968 foundation just to name a few!

We have a van!

For those of you that follow our accounts on social media, you may have noticed a certain silver van with that familiar pink and white logo driving across Telford…

…Well, thanks to Saisnburys Telford, we have our very own vehicle for the first time since we began back in 2013!IMG_2185

The van is a result of a lot of hard work and dedication between Telford Crisis Support and Sainsburys for the charity of the year project for which we were chosen in 2016/2017.

We’d like to thank everyone that nominated Telford Crisis Support to be put forward for Sainsburys charity of the year. There isn’t anything that’s too big a task for the team at Sainsburys and their contributions and support to help us reach our goal has been absolutely amazing. Working with them has been an absolute pleasure and we’d like to thank all of the wonderful staff and customers at Sainsburys for their ongoing support.

Having the van means we’ll be able to collect and distribute more food each week, we’ll be able to reach those in crisis that may be isolated due to poor public transport links, spread our message across the borough, and continue on our aim to reduce food waste in Telford & Wrekin.

“We are delighted to have Telford crisis support as our charity of the year and that we have raised enough money to be able to fulfil the charity wish for a van that will help the charity no end with their mission to make sure that no one need go without the basic essentials to keep themselves and their families sheltered, fed, clean, clothed warm and healthy” – Sandra Kingscott, PR – Sainsburys

Telford Foodbank now redistributing food waste from ALDI

C8E81AtX0AEPs-mThe UK wastes 1.9mt of food and drink a year, however 1.1mt of this is avoidable.. (data source)
With levels of emergency food parcels rising at a higher volume than the intake of donations from the public, The team at TCS have spent the last 18 months sourcing food waste from retailers and suppliers to ensure a regular supply of fresh bread, fruit and vegetables that would have otherwise have gone to waste.

Having already made successful partnerships with the likes of Marks and Spencer and Greggs, we are delighted to announce that all four ALDI stores in Telford & Wrekin (Madeley, St George’s, Donnington & Newport) will be redistributing their fresh food to the Foodbank instead of throwing it away!

As of March 2017, 850kg of food surplus from ALDI has helped us to support 271 adults and children in crisis across the borough.

We’d like to thank all of the store teams for supporting their local community.

Let’s stop food waste.

FEBRUARY STOCK UPDATE

IMG_5089

It has taken the warehouse team 6 weeks, to finally process all of the donations from the 2016 Christmas period. We still cannot believe how inundated we were with bags of food that seemed to fly into the store every 10 minutes bag after bag.

After many, many audits and stock checks we have found that we are very short on stocks of main meals such as tinned meal items such as meatballs and curry/chilli, to go with the crates of rice, pasta and chopped tomatoes that we have in stock.

If you can include a few extra items in your next shop or find that you’d like to empty out your cupboards for a spot of spring cleaning, please have a look at our donation point map where you can find over 20 TCS donation points across Telford & Wrekin.

Thank you so much for your support.

Reducing food waste with M&S via neighbourly.com

For the past 12 months the TCS Foodbank has been working in partnership with Marks & Spencer Telford (via neighbourly.com) to look at reducing the environmental impact of the food being thrown away, by creating a social impact through offering surplus fresh produce to go into food parcels via our main hub at the Telford Community Store

Fresh produce such as bread, vegetables and fresh fruit are the key elements in making sure that the food we provide isn’t just sustainable, but also healthy and nutritional.

We hope that by changing behaviours and offering an alternative method of food redistribution, we’ll be able to offer a wider range of produce to service users and help to create links between retailers/ businesses and charities which will lead to positive outcomes, through food, fundraising and volunteer programmes, and further collaboration.
